  PROJECT NEWS  
Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc recently opened their new 80,000 sq ft Superstore with Petrol Filling Station at Johnstone, near Paisley in Scotland.
 

The store, built on the site of a former agricultural foods factory, boasts an impressive pedestrian footbridge to link the store to the town centre of Johnstone, with a 60m clear span across the Black Cart Water.

The project also included the upgrading of local highways junctions and major earthworks to develop this former industrial site.

Rex Procter & Partners acted as Quantity Surveyor for the project. Architects were Smith Design Associates, and Stuart McTaggart were the Consulting Structural Engineers.

The project was constructed to programme by Miller Construction UK Ltd.

 
The Round Foundry, Leeds was awarded “Project of the Year and Regeneration Award Winner” at the 2005 RICS National Property Awards.
  The Round Foundry site lies in the heart of Holbeck in Leeds, which has been designated an urban village to promote sustainable mixed-use development.

The Scheme involved restoration of Grade 2 and Grade 2* listed buildings with new infill buildings providing housing, office space and retail outlets.

Simon Pott, Chairman of the Judging panel said “The Round Foundry has all the elements of a first-class regeneration scheme. The industrial heritage of the building has been preserved in an imaginative way without compromising the future commercial use.”

The Developer was St James Securities and CTP St James, the Architect was Building Design Partnership.

 
  Wulvern Housing Limited takes up occupation of a new Head Office  
  Rex Procter and Partners recently completed their commission as Employer’s Agent and Quantity Surveyors on the new build construction of a 30,000 sq ft Head Office for Wulvern Housing at Crewe Business Park.

Wulvern Housing Limited, a provider of Social Housing, has moved from its City Centre location to a new bespoke, fully fitted out building on the outskirts of Crewe.

The Architect was Nicol Thomas and the Contractor was SOL Construction Limited.

 
Canterbury Children’s Centre Opens On Time
  Canterbury Children’s Centre which was designated an Early Excellence Centre in February 2001 has benefited from a significant extension and refurbishment as part of the current SureStart funding initiative.

The Centre offers a facility to families with children aged between 0-5 years.

The construction works were competitively tendered on a Design and Build basis.

The Head Teacher commented “Throughout the project works, your company has endeavoured to liaise and keep us closely informed about progress, equally you have consulted us about all necessary aspects so that the end result is everything we wished for and more”.

The Client was City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council Early Years.

 
Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc/Safeway Conversion Programme Completes
  The conversion of over 200 Safeway stores to WM Morrison Supermarkets plc stores was completed in November 2005. The programme has lasted 16 months and had involved a dedicated Rex Procter and Partners Team travelling extensively throughout the UK.

Rex Procter and Partners provided quantity surveying and contract administration services working closely with Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc in-house project managers and team of external consultants.

 
  APPOINTMENTS  
  As a result of continued growth and expansion Rex Procter and Partners has made a number of promotions to strengthen the management teams in the Leeds and Bradford Offices.

Chris Ing has been promoted to the position of Partner and Dave Dixon, Simon Hodge, John Pollard, Ian Hutchinson and Martin Stockwell have all accepted positions as Associates.

The new Yorkshire Regional President of the RICS is Kevin Wood an Associate working out of the Bradford Office. The Practice is delighted to continue its long established links with the RICS and is proud and pleased to support Kevin in this challenging role.

 

Gavin Lowe, a Senior Quantity Surveyor in the Bradford Office was part of a successful multi disciplinary team that took part in Team Build UK 2006 organised by the Construction Industry Council. The team that Gavin was a part of won the Contract Strategy prize. Other members of the team included representatives from Carey Jones Architects, Mott MacDonald and Ove Arup. Congratulations to Gavin and the other team members.


 
  FIVE ASIDE TOURNAMENT  
 
Rex Procter & Partners continue to have success in sporting events. The most recent prize to be included in the trophy cabinet is for winning the 2006 Willmott Dixon Cancer Research Five Aside Tournament. The winners are pictured below.
