Recent Projects

The Green Building, Macintosh Village, Manchester

An innovative building close to Oxford Station in Manchester, the building contains a 120 place nursery and GP Surgery and 32 Apartments. The cylindrical form of the building, whilst being a striking architectural feature, also offers the smallest surface area to volume, providing optimum insulation and passive warmth and light.

The scheme includes a wind turbine and solar water heating. Carbon emissions are 60% for a standard apartment. The building achieved an Excellent Eco-homes rating and also won the Civic Award in the sustainability category.

Rex Procter & Partners acted as Project Manager, Employer's Agent and Quantity Surveyor.

Shires House, Leeds

A new build office block for Watson & Batty, a leading Architectural Practice, constructed on the outskirts of Leeds. The building utilises an eco-friendly geothermal heating and cooling system, incorporating geothermal extraction from a depth of 45m. This has contributed to a significant reduction in energy costs and in reduced carbon emissions.

Glazing is primarily North facing to maximise natural daylight and to minimise solar gain. Brise soleil has also been incorporated to further reduce solar gain. Rain water harvesting has been incorporated to flush W.C.'s.

The building achieved a BREEAM rating of 'Excellent' and also won the National Gold Award for best new commercial development at the 2007 International Green Apple Awards.
